Manipulative Physiotherapy

Manipulative physiotherapy is the term used to describe the field of physiotherapy practice which relates to disorders of the musculoskeletal system. After a thorough history and assessment, the physiotherapist may chose to apply a mobilisation or manipulation treatment to joints that are found to be less mobile. Mobilisations are low grade, gentle movements on the joints, and manipulations are higher force, low velocity stretches to a joint, sometimes producing a “click”.

These treatment techniques have been found to be effective, combined with exercise, in the treatment of neck and back pain.
